Getting More Foregin Investment


       Apart from entertainment section in South Korea, investment is one of other significant factors to generate revenue. As you know nowadays South Korea obtains a lot of benefits from the Korean Wave, a.k.a. the South Korea's marketing strategy especially, in tourism section.
      According to  SONIA KOLESNIKOV-JESSOP ( 2010 ),South Korea is giving more attention to foreign investment in tourism section. South Korea target approximately 10 million tourists by 2010. I think that number maybe too much comparing with South Korea neighborhood countries. Hotel operation just Four Seasons, Starwood, and many the world famous hotels are interested in Seoul, but they only have a plan and not implemention now. Although the Starwood chairman,said that Seoul is a dynamic city, to compare to other countries is demostate that how much the tourist attractions have to be construct. South Korea is a small country, so it may be not enough resouces.
      In my point of view, South Korea should attempt to build more leisure attractions to cater tourists' need. This will assist South Korea to encourage foreign hotel operation to invest in tourism section.

Korean Wave Leading to International Expo

     Today, I had a chance to read news about big event in Thailand. I chose this news because actually, this expo still used Korean entertainment to get attention from Thai people. It relate to my idea that at the expo, it had to consist of tourism section.

     Korean Entertainment Expo 2010 held at Siam Paragon, Bangkok. There were total 60 companies and 15 companies from Thailand to take part in this expo. This expo consists of cosmetics, accessories, technology and so on. KOTRA, who held this expo, say that profit from this is around 50 million dollars  with evidence from 1,500 consultations between Thailand and Korea. South Korea plan to launch to China next year and Japan in next two years. Because of the Korean Wave, it impact to every kinds of businesses from South Korea.(Kim Tae -Gyu The Korea Times, 2010  Oct 24 )

      In my point of view, I think at the present time, South Korea get lots and lots benefits from the Korean Wave, a.k.a South Korea marketing. They also launch another business which related to Korean entertainment to get more income.

Chinese to South Korea


      There are many reasons why Chinese go to South Korea, but for now, the main reason is they want to be what Korean dramas do. It means that China also get the  Korean Wave' effects like numerous countries in Asia. It relate to my term paper because this news article concern about tourism section.

      While I was reading this article, I realized how South Korea marketing strategy works. According to Korea Joongang Daily ( 2010 Oct 31), some Chinese tourists have canceled trips to Japan and chose to travel South Korea instead of. From interview to Chinese  guide tourists in Seoul, They said " We came here because of the Korean Wave." In addition, according to ,Choi Hyo-jung, a publicity official at the China National Tourism Administration’s branch in Seoul,  “We have yet to receive statistics for September, but I heard tourism to Japan has dropped significantly,”  The number of Chinese are increasing rapidly because percent of Chinese tourists jump to 45 percent in two first quaters. Some commercial areas like Myeong-dong had a new way to attract tourists by adding Chinese-speaking staff at store and using  well-known Korean celebrities to capture Chinese tourists.  Now South Korea is one of the top five destinations for outbound Chinese tourists, so Chinese tourists will the main target tourist for South Korea to receive more income. Then,the Seoul Chamber of Commerce, an association of businesses operating in the capital, opened a free Chinese language course to help Korean communicate with tourist easily. 


       Personally, I think Chinese tourists is the main target tourist of every countries because as you know, China consists of a huge population. Which country Chinese tourists are interested in, will get lots of 
benefits in many ways.

Next Generation of Korean Music

     These days, Korean bands are almost debute every single month, but not all of them will be on the top of the charts easliy.  If one of them are on the top of the list, they are supported to capture foreign listeners.
     According to The Chosun Ilbo( English Edition), 2010 Oct 29, USA Billboard 100 charts and Oricon weekly charts are the hardest chart which foreign music can reach number one on charts or even rake on the charts. FM is a  four- member rapper including two American Koreans. Moreover, they can be on the Billboard chart last week. In largest music industry, Japan, Girls' Generation, which nine-member girl group, are on top ten on the Oricon weekly charts. These two group prove that they are a next generation of Korean music across the world. They show their abilities such as dancing and singing well to foreigner.
     It seems to me that they are attempting to their dreams to become well-known artists even they had to pass the tough way to be like today.
